The agricultural lifestyle has been lost quite a long time ago. When Columbus came to what is known now as the United States of America, his country was moving away from being agricultural to an economical society. He brought those ways here and out traded the natives many times.

We lose many of our health benefits when we buy produce and other foods from a store. This is because the store produce is harvested too soon so it can be shipped to the stores and not go bad during that time. When growing our own food we allow produce to fully ripen before it is harvested. By this we gain the maximum health benefits that our bodies need.

We also have raised chickens and eat the eggs. They are organic free range. Because our property isn’t as large as we would like so we could have goats and other animals, we are fortunate to have chickens. With just a few chickens it provides one meal a day for us just from the eggs. During the cold season the chickens don’t lay eggs. They are created this way to give their bodies a rest. So during the time they are laying eggs we refrigerate them for use later when the chickens aren’t laying them.

Homesteaders of today often use renewable energy options including solar and wind power. Long ago they used water power by building a water wheel and submersing the lower part of it into a fast moving stream in order to generate electricity in a small power plant. Many also choose to plant and grow heirloom vegetables and to raise heritage livestock. Homesteading is not defined by where someone lives, such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices they make.

About

Welcome to our world! We love what we do and do what we love. Iโ€™m not only a homesteader, Iโ€™m also an internet developer, construction tradesman accomplished in several trades, my wife and I are people of faith. We serve Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, keep his commandments which start with loving Elohim (God) with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourself. We keep the Holy days and enjoy them. We want to impact this world with the good things Yehovah has given us.

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It’s characterized by agricultural living, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small scale production of clothing, and craft work for household use or sale. Homesteading has been pursued in various ways around the world. It is typically distinguished from rural village or commune living by the isolation of the homestead (socially, physically, or both). Use of the term in the United States dates back to the Homestead Act (1862) and before.
